Covanta’s Waste-to-Energy (WTE) and materials processing facilities provide an environmentally and socially responsible means of managing solid waste. Our facilities provide waste management infrastructure that helps communities move up the waste hierarchy by recovering resources in the form of materials and energy. In addition, we deliver renewable baseload power near load centers, provide resiliency to the electrical grid and assist with reducing GHG emissions associated with power generation.
We’ve committed to implement five projects by 2023 to further reduce emissions in EJ communities. We will also set a science-based GHG reduction target by 2022 to drive further reductions.
Progress
Installation of new Low NOx technology is currently in various stages of development in eight units at three facilities, two of which are EJ communities.
